#5 - Donnie Darko (2001) I will admit I did not get this movie the first time I saw it, in fact I really did not even enjoy it until I went and saw the directors cut. But when I saw that one, it totally opened my eyes and everything just fell into place and I instantly knew that Donnie Darko was a great movie. Richard Kelly wrote and directed this movie, and sadly it seems he peaked here with this movie but man what a great debut! Jake Gyllenhaal (who seems to frequent this list) is Donnie, a teen who's life gets complicated due to time travel, a bunny, and jet engine. I will not try to explain the movie because it has to be seen, but I would recommend you see it a few times to get all the little things that this movie throws at you. Donnie Darko is another sci-fi masterpiece and the use of music adds a lot to the atmosphere of the film. If you want to see a trippy yet awesome flick then look no further.
